Fundrasing Car Wash Can Do Havoc on Your Cars Finish!

It's a normal occurrence and a great money maker for schools and groups to make a quick buck by offering a car wash -- and it seems as if there are always lines of people at these events too. However, MB Motorsports fans should know that you may be donating to a great cause but might be better off just giving the group the few dollars and drive away which could save your cars finish.

If there is any place to get scratches and swirl marks it would be one of these road-side car washes -- and especially with a black Honda -- I simply say No Thanks! How many times do you think those sponges have hit the ground or picked up dirt from other cars which will end up leaving your finish looking like a warzone.
I remember when I was in high-school I took part in a car wash and saw someone with a sponge that was on the ground with a small stone in it that left a nice sized scratch in the hood. From that day on -- I will donate the money to the cause but won't let them touch my car. Of course, the choice is yours but I like my mirror-like finish and work hard to maintain it.

Have you had a bad experience with one of these fundraiser -- share your story with MB Motorsports!

MB Motorsports celebrates National Junk Food Day -- well, kinda.

I'm not so sure MB Motorsports is actually celebrating the day by promoting junk food -- but I supposed if there is one day to eat some bad food and it is nationally recognized -- then let today be the day!

I would never call myself a health food fanatic or anything but I would much rather eat vegetables or fruit over junk food -- unless it's Herr's Salt and Vinegar chips then you will have to fight me for them.

So you ask yourself who would make this a nationally recognized day? Well the origins are unknown but it is recognized by the U.S. Census Bureau which sent out an  Daily Feature alert that read: "On the one hand, there's increasing concern about obesity, diabetes, and the quality of the diet of many Americans, underlined by pronouncements of anxiety from doctors and public health officials.  On the other, junk food shows no sign of waning in popularity.  In fact, today is National Junk Food Day.  Its theme song might be the hit of years ago, "Junk Food Junkie," which sang the praises of such items as "Dr Pepper and an old Moon Pie."

So MB Motorsports fans -- what is your favorite junk food?

Crabbing at the Jersey Shore with MB Motorsports

I would consider my wife and I pretty avid crabbers and it is one of our favorite things to do in the summer months at the Jersey Shore. If you have never tried crabbing, and I don't mean with traps, I mean dropline, bait and sinker then I highly recommend giving crabbing a try to all of the MB Motorsports fans in or visiting the Garden State.

If you have never crabbed before you can either rent a boat or you can crab from many area piers and lagoons but we always find a day out on the boat to be much more fun and relaxing. There are many spots through-out the state but two of our favorites locations include the Oceanic bridge in Rumson and the Causeway bridge in Long Beach Island -- however we do find that the Rumson crabs are a little more aggressive -- so watch your fingers.   So how do you catch the NJ Blueclaw Crabs -- well we prefer to use cut up Bunker fish but many also like to use raw chicken wings or chicken necks -- it really is personal preference.  What ever you do when you pull them up and catch them don't put them into a cooler with water -- you will kill them. Keep them in a bushel or  a cooler with some seaweed or wet paper towels and in the shade. If you put them in water they will deplete the oxygen and die -- no good!

Finally, cooking crab is up to you. You can steam, boil bake or grill them. I like to boil them first and then transfer to a stream pot for another few minutes with some spices in the water. Then I will remove them -- clean them and the saute them in a garlic, butter and old bay sauce quickly -- and they are delicious! But it is all up to you!  Give it a try and let us know what you think MB Motorsports Fans!

The Flying Car Approved for the Road

I'm not sure how many readers remember but about a year ago I wrote on the MB Motorsports blog about the Terrafugia Transition -- which is said to be the world's first flying car.It is still pretty amazing to think you could be driving down the highway and roll right into the local airport, be cleared for departure and take-off to a distant destination.  One of the biggest issues for this flying vehicle was waiting for the final approval from the NHTSA . There are still many issue that the flying-car needs to fix which many should be address in the newest model However despite a helpful weight exemption from the aerial feds, according to the new spec a fully-fuelled Transition will be able to lift only 330lb of passengers and payload. That said it would not be able to take off with two average sized men.Additionally the price has dramatically increased from $148k to $250k.

Terrafugia is almost there and when the do finally work all the kinks out I think they will be the leaders in this new market of flying automobiles.

How loyal are you to your car brand?

Recently after purchasing my pre-owned Honda Accord I realized that I have absolutely no brand loyalty whatsoever! Thinking back I have owned a Nissan, a Pontiac, a Mazda and now a Honda -- they only loyal trend that I see is I like foreign cars better than domestic but not a specific brand at all. I have read plenty of marketing reports talking about brand loyalty and I have also talked with people that would never by anything else than a a Ford truck.  Sure brand loyalty is not just associated with cars and trucks but you see it in other places to. For example, my father-in-law is a die-hard Sony Electronics fan and if he is ready to purchase a new item and Sony makes it -- that is exactly what he will buy -- even if the specs are no better than the competition.

The loyalty of course is a bit harder to see at a used car dealership since your not selling a specific brand and it seems that many search the website or the lot for a car or truck that just stands out and they like. At least this is the method I used when buying my car -- I went through tons of listing with no set brand or model in mind although I did have an idea of price point and a few features that I would like to have.  I was really just looking for something that had some class and looked professional and after comparing a few vehicles I really like the Honda Accord, and saw that it had some great reviews, and made the purchase. What will my next car be? -- we shall see what I like when I am ready to buy again.

Take a look at this chart that shows the top 10 vehicles for Automaker brand loyalty. This chart was produced in 2009 but it gives you a pretty good idea of loyal customers.  So... How loyal are you to your car brand?

Could you drive your car for free?

Have you ever imagined lowering your car payment or perhaps having no payment at all -- well that though could become a reality if you meet some requirements of the ad agencies that pay you for space on your vehicle.  It's no joke that these companies actually exist and yes you need to research them before signing up and you should not have to pay into the service -- as that is what the client does. Some services will allow you to put the ads on your own used car or truck or give the option to drive a brand new vehicle that is pre-wrapped with the ads already based on your daily commute, what roads you take and other driving habits too. Additionally, the size of the ad also plays a role into how much you will be paid and they vary from small door ads to a full-size car wrap.

So how does it work?
Advertisers choose the drivers they want based on the information you provide us. You will never have to pay a cent to participate in the program. When you are chosen, your vehicle will be wrapped in an attractive advertisement and you will get paid up to $900 a month. Most programs average 3 months but some are longer and others shorter. The more information you provide to the advertiser the better your chances of getting the deal.

So if you have ever wanted to stop paying the monthly payments on your car and don't mind driving around a moving billboard for a few months you should looking into these programs. Both Free Car Media and DrivenMedia have websites where potential drivers can sign up – for free. There are many other companies that offer services like this too but be sure to research them especially when the ask for money when services like this should be free of charge to submit to the database.

Have you ever tried a program like this? MB Motorsports would love to hear from you!

MB Motorsports wants you to stay safe this 4th of July

The fun-filled and great American holiday weekend is almost here at MB Motorsports -- and we are ready for the BBQ and some traditional fireworks this 4th of July! Now we highly recommend that you go and watch professional fireworks but if you are daring and like to put on your own show we ask that you stay safe and read a few of the helpful safety tips before lighting the fuse.

  • Use fireworks outdoors only.
  • Obey local laws. If fireworks are not legal where you live, do not use them.
  • Always have water handy. (A hose or bucket).
  • Only use fireworks as intended. Don't try to alter them or combine them.
  • Never relight a "dud" firework. Wait 20 minutes and then soak it in a bucket of water.
  • Use common sense. Spectators should keep a safe distance from the shooter and the shooter should wear safety glasses.
  • Alcohol and fireworks do not mix. Have a "designated shooter."
  • Only persons over the age of 12 should be allowed to handle sparklers of any type.
  • Do not ever use homemade fireworks of illegal explosives: They can kill you! Report illegal explosives to the fire or police department in your community.
The National Council on Fireworks Safety and your favorite NJ used car dealer invites you to celebrate our nation's heritage on the Fourth of July, but celebrate safely.

Buy here pay here - what's that?

From time to time customers are looking for buy here pay here car lots in NJ
-- now this is not something that MB Motorsports offers but for some this may be an unfamiliar term. Not until starting work with MB Motorsports here in Tinton Falls did I ever really understand what the term "Buy Here Pay Here" meant -- I honestly thought that was how all used car dealers worked -- you bought and you paid .. where else would you go.  Well -- that was not really the case so I figure I would shed some light on the term.

So What does "Buy Here Pay Here" mean?
Buy Here Pay Here (BHPH) financing means that you arrange a loan and make payments on it at the dealership. Instead of using an external financial institution to get your loan on your used car the dealership would arrange an internal payment plan. Simply put, you purchase the car through what's referred to as in-house financing versus through a third party, such as a bank.

So who could benefit from a BHPH dealership?
Ultimately Buy Here Pay Here is designed to help shoppers who may have experienced significant financial difficulties. Typically if your credit score is on the lower end of the scale or if you've can't secure an auto loan, through an traditional financial institution then a BHPH dealership is probably a great place for you to start.

If you are not comfortable dealing with a Buy Here Pay Here car dealership -- since most of the time when you think of them you see a low budget commercial with an owner wearing a large cowboy hat selling beat-up cars and low prices!  That might turn me off too -- nevertheless, many dealerships like MB Motorsports in Tinton Falls NJ provide a large range of used car financing options and can work with all types of credit histories too.

What to do in the case of a motor vehicle accident

I was recently involved in an auto accident, yes I'm okay, and I though that this would make for a good blog post. Now, its hard to actually figure out how many accidents happen on a daily basis nationwide but I would have to guess around a few thousand based on the national yearly averages. Some are minor and some are unfortunately are serious -- know what steps to take after being involved in an accident can help. Sure it is hard to think clearly with everything racing through your mind after the accident but follow these steps and it will help to put everything into perspective and try to stay calm.

Injuries & Damage
Determine the type of injuries and/or damage that has occurred and if any one needs immediate medical attention. Also, my car was able to drive a little bit and I pulled off the busy highway into a parking lot before emerging from my vehicle.

Call the PoliceMake a phone call to the local Police to let them know about the accident. They will ask a few questions to find out if anyone is hurt and the location so the can dispatch the correct personnel.

If you have a digital camera or smartphone I highly recommend snapping some photos of the scene, and the damaged vehicles which could help especially if you need to present any type of case at a later date. Once the Police arrive give an accurate and detailed statement.

I was also checked by the paramedics for any injuries and asked if I wanted to go to the hospital -- I felt okay and denied but later in the day I checked in to the Hospital just to be checked out since some muscles were starting to hurt -- everything was fine just some muscle tension from the impact.

Information
Get the license plate number, make and model of any other vehicles involved and if you can speak with the other party involved be sure to get their information too.

Towing & Insurance
The Police asked if I needed a tow truck to be called -- luckily I have AAA and called them to send a flat bed who took my car to the body shop. Just keep in mind if you don't have something like Triple A -- there will likely be a cost for the tow.

After Triple A was dispatched I called my insurance Claims department to get everything underway. They will ask a series of questions as well. I actually helped in the process by sending photos of both vehicles, the police report and signing over my car at their office after being advised it was totaled. All of this will help in the claim process.

Hopefully, you don't have to experience a motor vehicle accident but hope that these tips provided by MB Motorsports will help you get back on the road.

Awesome Used 1946 Indian Chief Motorcycle at MB Motorsports

It's not everyday you get to see a vintage Indian motorcycle in person that is 60+ years old and in like new condition.  This 1946 post World War 2 Indian Chief is in excellent condition with the original paint and it looks and runs great. This would be the perfect bike for any collector and Indian Motorcycle fanatic.

Even though many of the features of this bike were similar to the pre-war version it did offer some fancy upgrades. The 1946 Indian Chief motorcycle included upgrades such as new girder-style front forks and softer spring rates on the plunger-type rear suspension.

This really is one cool bike and a true piece of history and we have it here at MB Motorsports -- but most likely not for long.  Come down now and see this 1946 Indian Chief Motorcycle for yourself.

MB Motorsports makes skydive for local non-profit organization!

As promised, Allen of MB Motorsports in Tinton Falls made his first-ever skydive with Skydive Jersey Shore which was arranged in order to help raise money and awareness of the Monmouth and Ocean county non-profit organization MOCEANS .

Originally set for June 2 the weather would not hold out and the high winds kept setting the jump date back. On the morning of June 6, we saw the weather was going to be perfect and almost no wind at all.  We quickly told Allen to get ready for the jump ----- and yes, as insane as some of you may think it is Allen did in fact jump out of a perfectly good aircraft at 10,000 feet above the Jersey shore!  "It really was tons of fun and I can't wait to go back up! And, we couldn't have done it without our loyal MB Motorsports Facebook fans", said Gottfried.

As with many of the MB Motorsports fundraising events the MB Motorsport Facebook fans were asked to simply click "like" or leave a comment on any of the Skydive posts for the past few weeks and gave them the option of making a separate donation to the organization as well.

We thank everyone for your support and as promised you can catch the video of the whole event on the MB Motorsports Facebook page. facebook.com/mbmotorsport

Summer is almost here and it’s time to start packing your bags for that family road trip. No matter if it's a cross-country journey or just a day trip to the shore. With the constant rise in airline tickets the family road trip is becoming even more popular and financially it just makes the most sense. However, before taking to the roads you should inspect your vehicle to ensure a safe trip and we have compiled some helpful tips for the friends and family of MB Motorsports.

2.)    Check other fluids including (transmission fluid, coolant, braking fluid, power steering fluid, washer fluid)
3.)    Check your tire pressure and ensure that your spare tire is filed to the proper pressure.
4.)    Know your route (Maps, GPS) in-case of an emergency become familiar with your planned travel route.
5.)    Pack and emergency bag especially for long trips (first aid kit, flash light, storm proof matches, knife,  basic hand tools, work gloves, jumper cables, insect repellant and sun block) to mention a few things.
6.)    Things to eat and drink  in case of an emergency should include protein bars and water bottles

Burgers, BBQ, Beer and the American Dream at MB Motorsports

Everyone at MB Motorsports hopes everyone had a wonderful memorial day weekend with great food and family.  Sure, waking up to a clap of thunder was not what I really wanted to hear but that was quickly gone and the day turned out to be beautiful.

There were plenty of nutso New Jersey drivers on the roads who suddenly forget how to drive just because it is a holiday along with people in the home improvement stores buying stuff they don't know for what they need it -- well unless it was on the "honey-do" list -- which you can quickly determine those men when the are walking around aimlessly and cursing to themselves trying to figure out what purple flower their wife was talking about.

But now that they madness is out of the way -- at least for the first official day of the season at the Jersey shore. But more madness is sure to come for us here at MB Motorsports.  June 2 I make a skydive to help support MOCEANS center for independent living along with a few other employees too  which will be tons of fun!!

Don't forget with the nice weather and sunny skies -- we have pre-owned convertibles!!! Everything from BMW, Nissan, Chevy and even a stunning used Dodge Viper! It's going to be a great summer so be sure to stop by and take that car or truck for a spin!

GPS Update Report from MB Motorsports

We've had a few customers tell us that they have trouble finding MB Motorsports  with their GPS device and now we are pleased to announce that we have successfully submitted both the car and truck lot to all the GPS services for updating as a POI "point of interest" . Now, keep in mind that if you have a current GPS or thinking about buying one soon we won't appear as a POI on those maps until you run the latest update.  I would still wait about a month to ensure we are fully in the new map database but now you will be able to find us and select us right in your device!

If you need to update your maps here are a few links to help you get started.

Garmin Updates - Click Here
TomTom Updates - Click Here
Magellan Updates - Click Here
NAVTEQ Updates - Click Here

Keep in mind if you are searching for a GPS device for the holidays try to find one that supports free lifetime traffic and free or cheap lifetime unlimited map updates. Many services run this as a special and it is the way to go for sure since they tend to really charge a lot for both services if they are not included with the device.

Enjoy!

Build Your Own Corvette Engine.

You will have no one else to blame but yourself when the engine doesn't turn over or you seem to have a few missing bolts. Actually that would not be the case as the newly offered engine build experience from Chevrolet is highly controlled to ensure quality and assembly of your Vette engine.

Chevy is offering buyers of the 2011 Corvette ZR1 and Z06 the golden opportunity to allow them to build the engines for their cars. At an estimated cost of $5,800, plus the cost of getting to Detroit, a Corvette buyer is welcome to GM's Performance Build Center in Wixom, Michigan, where engines for the ZR1 and the Z06 are built by hand. Now if you can't handle making these arrangements yourself, Chevy does offer a concierge service to book your experience, which is also included in the package.

With minimal automated assistance buyers will start with a bare engine block and work their way down the line with skilled professionals at the performance build center.  And, no need to worry your engine will still come with a 5-year/100,000mile warranty no matter who builds it.

At an estimated MSRP $109,800.00 for the ZR1 Coupe, I want to know what else they will let me do to the car.  At first, I thought this is kind of the same idea of paying good money for a concert ticket and the band wanting you to sing the song. I paid the money... you sing the song!  But, when you actually think about the type of car, the owners and the pride they take in their All-American race machine I think this is a great opportunity to become even closer with your Vette.

Nevertheless, what a great opportunity this is for the lucky owners of the ZR1 and Z06. If this is your next car then I say pay the extra five-grand, let Chevy's concierge service set it all up and have a blast!

Clean that dirty engine!

Clean that dirty engine!
If you're like me when you clean your car or truck you concentrate so much on getting that show-room shine and making the interior look and smell nice. But, honestly, how many of us think about lifting the hood and
cleaning the engine too.

It may not even phase you or the engine may not even look that dirty but think about the wonderful winter we have had so far and all that salt and dirt that may have worked its way up into the engine. Things like excessive grease and dirt may cause the engine to run hot or not as good
as it should.

Cleaning the engine is a major part of a complete automotive
detail from MB Motorsports
since we don't only want your car to look
great but also make sure it is running great too. So, here are a few
helpful tips from an article on WikiHow that will teach you how to get
your engine looking like new.
